Short shot

Thinking about Paula Deen, Southern culture, and what-not put me in mind of the comment of a fellow Southerner, a friend of mine, years ago, that "if we'd won the [Civil] War we'd have been a lot better off."

To which my response was, "We did."

Not sure if he ever figured out my point.
